 Anthony Harrell for Harrisburg Mayor

My name is Anthony Harrell and I am a citizen of Harrisburg. I am not a politician, I am college student Central Penn College seeking a bachelor’s degree in homeland security with a Associate Degree from Community College of Philadelphia (Liberal Arts) and Thompson Institute (Computer Network Administration).  I am a soldier and Iraq war veteran and a husband and father of 5 children. I have not received nor do I want any endorsements from any pacts, or political persons that is retired or is currently working. I do not ask for campaign funds, nor do I receive any from pacts or outside interest that wish to contribute to my campaign. I do not ask for money from the citizens of Harrisburg either because the citizens here are struggling to make ends meet and that would not be acceptable for a person calling themselves a servant of the people to take from them. I have saved my money to support my campaign and to buy my signs, my buttons, postcards, and wardrobe. The citizens of Harrisburg want a candidate that is willing to spend his own money, knock on the doors, and shake their hands personally. At the last election, the people had two choices, one was horrible and the less horrible but they both was not what the people wanted. That’s why only 7 thousand people showed up to vote. I voted because it’s my duty to do so and even though I didn’t support either of the candidates I still voted. It was at that time I decided to put forward my vision my view of what issues that troubled the citizens and myself. My children go the elementary and middle school here and I have gone to HACC. I have decided a long time ago to make an investment in this city.  I am a second amendment candidate, and as a soldier, I promise the soldiers creed, ”Never leave a Man Behind”, the homeless, the young, the elderly, the LGBT, the Veterans, the small business owners and entrepreneurs,  chi-poke, Uptown, Allison Hill (Edison Village P-Funk), the south (Hall Manor) Mid-town.

“Mayor Papenfuse seems to find money when he wants to and now build a ridiculous bridge instead of investing that into the city streets.”

The ACT 47 will expire in the 2018 and I say let it expire, it was never a good ideal to allow the federal government take control of Harrisburg in the first place.  I am in favor of a city where the citizenry take an invested interest and a voice in it. Here’s a fact that needs to be told, 40 out of the 50 states in America has implemented Home Rule.

When I read that the city paid and outside contractor almost 185,000 dollars to complete the Comprehensive Plan in about 2 years. Only to read later in the article that the job is not complete and the contractor and Harrisburg Administrations and City Counsel are blaming each other as to who is at fault. Like all Harrisburg citizens, I am disgusted and outraged, we have paid him (contractor) all of them (City Counsel, Mayors Administration) to do the will of the people. What I suggest is this, whatever work he has completed up to now should be all be turned over to city and have his work continued by a bid by any city firm.

Last Monday on a radio show Mayor Papenfuse said that the city had a surplus of 10 million dollars and in a Pennlive article Mayor Papenfuse also says, “The city also has applied for state grant money to build a roughly $30 million bridge over Division Street to connect Harrisburg Area Community College with Uptown Harrisburg”. Mayor Papenfuse seems to find money when he wants to and now build a ridiculous bridge instead of investing that into the city streets.

From my point of view there is not one issues that any honest candidate say with a degree of certainty, Harrisburg is currently suffering the most. But changing the current administration would be the most effective way to start the change. For the last 4 years, this city has seen it split down into sections, of the have and the have nots. Beautiful streets, lamp post that works, no vacant houses and a vibrant business district especially around the, “Broad Street Market”. They have newly paved streets while the rest of the city is in crisis and sinking all around them. Then there is the crime, the abandoned lots and houses the youth and employment and the drugs. One after another I would make it my administrations only task, to solve it and if I do not measure up to what I’ve said, then in four years I would not run for a second term. I work for the citizens of Harrisburg not my campaign donors.

  1. I respect Mr Harrell for taking the leap and running for Mayor of Harrisburg. However, this is perhaps one of the worst bios I’ve read for any candidate. If you want to be taken seriously, gotta proofread sir.
